Columbus company goes up in smoke, Veterans Day freebies

Here's what we're working on for News Leader Nine at Noon:

Davenport Transport Company fire

Less than a week after a huge fire in Columbus, another local business has gone up in flames. Firefighters were called to Davenport Transfer Company on 10th Avenue around eight last night. It's used for moving and storage and News Leader Nine was told there is heavy damage to merchandise that was stored in the building. No one was hurt and firefighters were eventually able to get the fire under control. The cause of the fire hasn't been determined.

Outdoors without Limits fundraiser

The faith-based organization, "Outdoors without Limits," has a new chapter in the Chattahoochee Valley. It takes people who are handicapped or disabled outdoors for hunting and fishing. The Columbus group is raising funds and recruiting volunteers for their first hunt on December 2nd and 3rd. The local chapter has a big event next Tuesday night, November 15th at the Front Porch of the South on Veterans Parkway. Doors open at 6:30. Tickets are $35 dollars, which includes dinner and membership, $45 for couples, $10 for kids.

Veterans Day freebies

Today is Veterans Day and News Leader Nine has stumbled across all sorts of freebies in the area. We're not just talking about free meals at restaurants like Applebee's.  There's also free admission to local musical performances, free car washes and discounts at Lowes and Home Depot. To check out where the freebies are, log on to and click on the quick links tab.

I hope you'll join us for the news at noon!
