AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - Strong storms have left thousands of people without electricity in central Alabama and Georgia.
Alabama Power Co. says storms knocked out service to about 34,000 customers in the Montgomery, Auburn and Opelika areas on Wednesday.
The Alabama Emergency Management Agency says workers are checking on damage in east Alabama. Reports indicate that the damaged area includes a mobile home park, an apartment complex and a retail development.
About 600 customers in the Manchester, GA area do not have power at this time. Crews hope to have power restored by sometime Wednesday night or early in the morning.
