Gators prepare for state title showdown in Troy

PHENIX CITY, Ala. (WTVM) - The Glenwood Gators have put together quite the comeback.

After losing two of  their first four games, then three of their final four regular season contests, the Gators have pulled off two straight upsets to earn a spot in Friday's AISA Class AAA championship game.

Despite the rough patches, the Gators say they never gave up.

"This year started out kind of rough, but we got a little better," said senior defensive back Will Allison. "It just means a lot from the season that we had to come from what we had earlier in the season."

Senior offensive guard Eric Lynn counted on the veteran heavy team to come through when it mattered.

"I knew we'd be better because our senior class has a lot of guys," Lynn said, "but I never thought I'd be going to the state championship.

"It feels great, senior lineman Kyle Langston said. "It's what we came here to do and what we've worked so hard over the summer and what I've wanted to do my whole life."

Now they'll get their chance. The Gators take on second-ranked Bessemer Academy for the title. Kickoff is set for 4:30 pm ET on Friday at Troy University's Veterans Memorial Stadium.
