AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - The National Weather Service says a tornado that hit Auburn earlier this week had winds up to 110 mph.
The agency says an inspection shows the twister that struck Wednesday was classified as an EF-1 in Alabama. It damaged or destroyed dozens of mobile homes and houses before moving into Georgia, where it got stronger.
The tornado left a path of destruction 33 miles long and 700 yards wide across east Alabama, injuring one person. It briefly crossed the edge of the campus at Auburn University.
The weather service previously confirmed two twisters in west Alabama.
