Toddler shot by gunmen in Augusta home

AUGUSTA, GA (AP) - Authorities say a 17-month-old child and two adults were shot during an Augusta home invasion.

Richmond County sheriff's Sgt. James R. Kelly said the toddler was critical but stable condition at a hospital after the Tuesday afternoon gunfire.

The Augusta Chronicle reports that 27-year-olds Nathan Johnson III and Shaneshia Smith were also hospitalized in stable condition.

Investigators say all three people were inside a house near 13th and Dugas streets around 2:40 p.m. when two men wearing masks burst through the front door, shouting and pointing guns at them.

Sheriff's officials say the intruders shot all three and then ran out the door.
