A search warrant was issued after a lengthy undercover investigation that was initiated by citizens complaining of an illegal activity in Meriwether County.
"We received several complaints of this going on for the past few weeks on Sunday afternoons. We began investigating the complaints immediately and uncovered a lot of evidence that led to us executing this search warrant," said Sheriff Steve Whitlock.
Deputies found an elaborate horse track, including fences, a starting gate, and a timing system as well as 300 people, including kids, watching horse races. There was also several tables set up on the property for the purpose of gambling with dice and playing cards.
"There was an elaborate race track for these horses to run on consisting of fencing, sand, and a starting gate much like the ones you would see at the Kentucky derby," said Sheriff Whitlock.
The 33 horses were transported to QC arena for housing until the case can be resolved.
All of the people at the event were questioned, 14 people were arrested.
