Bama's Richardson, Vlachos & Georgia's Smith earn honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Alabama running back Trent Richardson and center William Vlachos each received honors following the Crimson Tide's 42-14 victory over Auburn on Saturday, as announced by the SEC office on Monday. Richardson was named the SEC Co-Offensive Player of the Week and Vlachos was named SEC Co-Offensive Lineman of the Week

Richardson rushed for a career-high 203 yards on 27 carries and scored on a five-yard reception to pace the Crimson Tide offense. Richardson has 23 touchdowns on the year and leads the SEC (6th nationally) with an average of 131.9 yards per game. He was also named the Walter Camp Offensive Player of the Week. Vlachos had the top grade on the offensive line at 97 percent, which tied for the highest of any Tide offensive lineman this season. He did not allow a sack or a pressure, and had no missed assignments or penalties.

Meanwhile, Georgia defensive end Garrison Smith was named the SEC Co-Defensive Lineman of the Week following his performance in the 31-17 road win over No. 25 Georgia Tech.

Smith is the second straight Bulldog to earn the conference's Defensive Lineman of the Week after junior Abry Jones garnered the honor following the win over Kentucky. This conference award gives Georgia 14 SEC weekly honors this year.

Smith, a 6-3, 294-pound native of Atlanta, came off the bench after senior defensive end DeAngelo Tyson went down with an ankle injury on the second play of the game. Smith finished with a career-high seven tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss, to help limit the Yellow Jackets to their second lowest point total all season.

Thanks in part to Smith's contribution, the Bulldogs held Georgia Tech scoreless for two quarters and to 243 yards on the ground. The Yellow Jackets came into the game ranked second nationally averaging 323.6 yards rushing per game with their spread option attack. For the year, Georgia is third in the SEC in both scoring defense (17.8, 10th nationally) and rushing defense (94.8, 6th nationally).
