COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Some experts predicted up to 600,000 people would land a holiday job this year. Just to put that into perspective, though, there are about half a million people unemployed across the state of Georgia.
This means fierce competition as folks are desperate to find work, but more importantly, crooks are also desperate to take advantage of job seekers.
The Better Business Bureau is warning folks not to fall victim to work scams this holiday season.
"Doesn't matter if it's a listing in a popular job listing website or in the classifieds, always be sure, know who you're talking to and know who you're giving your information to," explains local BBB President Leonard Crain.
A few other tips for you:
- Don't ever send money or give out personal information like your social security number.
- Get contact information for the potential job, like a physical address and phone number.
- Also, contact the BBB if you need to. They can run a search on the company and even track their url for you.
