Teen's condition improves after beating by crowd

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

A Phenix City teen suffered injuries after police say he was beaten by more than 20 people over the weekend.

The incident happened early Saturday morning at the intersection of Doris and Garfield Drives, next to the Green Acres Cemetery in Columbus. Police tell News Leader 9 they heard multiple gunshots coming from the area and when they arrived they saw a large party of people running away.

After the crowd had tapered off, officers found a 19-year-old boy lying on the ground, suffering from multiple cuts and bruises to his head.

One witness did come forward and tell police they saw what appeared to be 20 to 25 people beating the victim.

Police did find an unidentified gun near the victim's car, but they are not saying he is the one who fired it.

Columbus police say at this point the numerous witnesses to the crime claim they saw nothing and the victim can't describe what happened because he is in unsatisfactory condition at the Medical Center.
