D.A. Slater's father charged with enticing a child

Glenwood Upper School substitute teacher, 78 year old Charles Fessenden, was arrested and charged with enticing a child.

Phenix City Police tell FOX 54 the incident did happen at Glenwood School with a student under the age of 16 while Fessenden was working as a sub.

School administrators have been advised to not comment on the investigation, but they do tell FOX 54 that Charles Fessenden is no longer employed with their school.

Because the case involves a child and is still under investigation, police won't comment on the specific details of what occurred inside the school. They will tell us the law defines enticing a child as "any adult attempting to entice a child under the age of 16 to perform an act of sexual conduct. It is listed as a Class C felony and if convicted, the suspect could face prison time.

Charles Fessenden is also the father of Chattahoochee Judicial Circuit District Attorney Julia Fessenden Slater. When FOX 54 contacted her for a comment on the charges brought against her father she said, "Of course, at this point, it's a mere allegation, I stand by my father.  I have faith in the judicial system.  It has nothing to do with my job.  It's not in Columbus, not in my jurisdiction.  It won't have any impact on how I do my job here in Columbus."

Fessenden was taken to the Lee County Detention Center where he posted a $5,000 bond.

Charles Fessenden is being represented by attorney Jeremy Armstrong out of Phenix City. He did not wish to comment on the on-going investigation at this time. A preliminary trial date has not been set.

We'll have the latest information on this story on FOX 54.
