USPS cost-cutting plan

Columbus' mail distribution center on Milgen Road is in jeopardy of closing. The announcement comes as the U.S. Postal Service moves ahead with plans to close some Georgia mail facilities as part of a nationwide effort to cut costs. Some of the other facilities that could close include Albany, Athens, Savannah and Valdosta.

Missing Columbus teenager

Muscogee County Sheriff's officials and family members are asking for help this afternoon finding a missing Columbus teenager. Casey Michelle Kelly, a Hardaway High School student, has been missing since last Tuesday. She's 5'4" and weighs 117 pounds with long blonde hair and blue eyes.  If you think you've seen her, call the sheriff's department.

Alabama's labor shortage

Alabama is facing a labor shortage that some are blaming on the new state law against illegal immigration. Now agriculture officials are considering using prisoners to fill that shortage. They are meeting today to look at whether work-release inmates could help fill jobs once held by immigrants. Planting season is coming up, and some growers fear most of their workers are gone.
