Porn sites now easier to identify

(CNN) - More than 100,000 porn sites now have the .XXX domain name.  Internet regulators came up with .XXX to make porn sites easier to identify.

The intent, in part, is to help parents protect their kids from viewing adult content.

While porn has a major yuck factor, it is extremely popular.  It's estimated that 40-million Americans are regular visitors to porn sites, bringing in almost $3 Billion year in the US.

Right now, the popular hosting site GoDaddy.com is allowing users to register .XXX domain names.  Its site says "Let's be adult about it" -- and offers two services.

First, if you offer adult content and want a .XXX website they'll get you one.  But they're not just catering to adult entertainment types.

If you want to protect your website's name from being registered as a .XXX site -- they'll help you do that too.

Penn state university did just that. According to its student newspaper -- the university paid $200 a pop in September to protect a variety of names including "PSU" and their mascot -- the Nittany lions.

You are still urged to use caution as you surf!

Adult sites will continue to be available as regular ".com."

If you'd like to protect your kids from the new domain -- there's a ton of parental control programs available for free on the internet -- just download the latest version.

Your web browser may have one built in as well.
