Jury deliberates in Decatur Court Apartments murder

A jury is deliberating in a June 2010 murder case. Tavares Lowe, Willie Jones and Shannon Fields are charged with robbing and then murdering 30-year-old Wayman James Jr.

Police say the crime happened just after midnight on June 15, 2010 at the Decatur Court Apartments in Columbus. Witnesses told police they saw men dressed in all black with a shotgun and one of the suspects admitted to the shooting while running away from the scene.

The fourth suspect, Ronnie Blue, is not on trial this week because his attorney is on medical leave.

Testimony revealed Wayman James Jr. was shot once in the back of the head with a shotgun.

News Leader 9 also learned in court the suspects got away with cash and a handgun before killing the victim.  All four suspects are charged with possession of a firearm and armed robbery along with murder.
