4 soldiers charged with double slaying

LONG CO., GA (WTOC) -

Four Fort Stewart soldiers appeared before a Long County magistrate judge on Monday.

They're charged in connection with the slayings of Tiffany York and Michael Roark.

The Third Infantry Division soldiers were taken into custody for questioning on Saturday morning. After the interviews, authorities determined they had enough information to arrest the soldiers, according to the Fort Stewart Public Affairs Office. They were booked into the Liberty County Jail.

Christopher Salmon, 25, is charged with murder, possession of a firearm during commission during commission of a crime. Isaac Aguigui, 19, is charged with being a party to a crime of murder. Anthony Peden, 25, is charged with murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. Michael Burnett, 26, is charged with being a party to a crime of murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

They were sent back to jail after Monday's court appearance to await a Superior Court hearing.

A fisherman found York and Roark dead on Tuesday morning near Morgan Lake Road in rural Long County. Autopsies revealed the two were shot.

The four suspects are all soldiers in the Fourth Brigade Combat Team and served with the victim before he left the Army the Friday before he was killed last Tuesday. 

Funeral arrangements are scheduled for Dec. 17 for York and Roark.

Memorial services for Roark will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday. He will be buried in his hometown of Shoreline, Wash., with full military honors.

York's family will hold a memorial service at the Westside Baptist Church in Hinesville at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. There is also a memorial fund in Tiffany York's name. Donations are being accepted at any Heritage Bank.
