Woman charged after lying about alleged kidnapping, robbery

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – A woman will face a judge after investigators determined that she filed a false police report.

Barbara Sneed reported she was kidnapped from the CB&T on Benning Drive around 5:30 pm last Saturday.

She told police while at the ATM she was approached by three white males.  According to police she reported one of the men was armed with a gun and forced her to give $250 from her account then forced her into their vehicle and took her to an unknown location in Harris County.

Sneed told police she was able to flag down another car who returned her to her home in Columbus.

With further investigation into the case, detectives found that no transaction was made at the bank.  Police say Sneed admitted to making a false report of a crime for kidnapping and armed robbery because she lost her money and was unable to pay her rent.

She was then presented a summons to appear in court on December 27 at 9 am.

Columbus police say false reports have been a problem for every department. Investigators say they have had about 20 cases of false reports in two years.
