Last week for Christmas shopping

By: Brittany Dionne - email

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – The clock is ticking with Christmas officially one week away and last minute shoppers are just getting started.  Crowds packed Columbus Park Crossings shopping center looking for last minute deals.

"I think people [have] more of a spirit because they know that [Christmas] is about to be here and they got to get through. People are just happier I think," said Kathy Buffkie, a last minute deal seeker.

Families hauled bags and pushed carts full of items.  Many saying they get a thrill out of it.

"I like to do last minute shopping, because I like the buzz and getting those last minute deals," says Stella Mamasiyeda.

Although some get a rush out of clogged parking lots, crowded walkways, and long lines, Clintnesha Matheny says there's no thrill at all.

"I don't like to be in the traffic too much and the holiday rush. I think it's better to get it done and out of the way; because there's a bunch of sales going on."

As people hurry in and out of stores looking for the best bargain. The Patel family says the best part is, "family, being together."

Stores are drastically cutting prices to lure customers in to shop. Shoes, ties, electronics, and toys are just some of the items getting checked off of Christmas shopping list at bargain deals.

According to Stella Mamasiyeda, "[The sales] are awesome; I've been getting some designer stuff for pennies."

The Saturday is Christmas Eve and stores are extending their hours slightly but not as late as previous years.
