Police: Patient shoots Ga. hospital visitor

DALTON, Ga. (AP) - Police say a hospital patient shot a man who asked him for a lighter.

Dalton police spokesman Bruce Frazier tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution  that 24-year-old Andrew Paul Desimone left his room at Hamilton Medical Center early Sunday and went to his car.

Visitor 27-year-old Kevin Laray Bradford went to the top level of the parking deck to smoke.

Frazier says Desimone pulled a gun from his car and shot Bradford in the abdomen then drove home. He is in stable condition at the hospital's intensive care unit.

Frazier says federal regulations prohibit police from saying why Desimone was in the hospital. Frazier says he has no criminal history in Dalton and wasn't under police protective custody at the hospital.

There is no evidence the men knew each other. Desimone is in jail.
