St. Louis Cardinals’ Edwin Jackson to donate bikes to Columbus kids

COLUMBUS, GA - The spirit of giving is alive and well in Columbus. About 100 children from the Columbus Parks and Recreation will receive bikes from hometown baseball hero and pitcher Edwin Jackson during his 1st Annual 100 Bikes for the Holiday's event.

The "pint-size socialites" will enjoy a private meet and greet with Jackson, light holiday fare, and festive music throughout the evening Wednesday, Dec. 21.

Jackson is the pitcher for the 2011 World Championship St. Louis Cardinals.

In its first year, Edwin Jackson 100 Bikes for the Holiday's event was created to accomplish several goals.

Besides making a child happy during the holiday season, Jackson created the event to assist parents who cannot afford to purchase bikes for their children and to promote exercise.

Each child who receives a bike will sign a pledge form promising to perform well and be a good student, community leader and most importantly stay away from drugs.
