Passenger killed, driver sent to hospital after wreck

LADONIA, AL (WTVM) -  A single car accident in East Alabama claimed the life of one man on Christmas Day.        

Twenty-five year old Jared Wayne Barr was killed when the car he was riding in struck a pole.              

The Russell County coroner's office tells News Leader 9 the accident happened around 9 pm Sunday night on Highway 80 West in Ladonia, Alabama.  The vehicle Barr was a passenger in struck a telephone pole in front of Auto Zone.  The accident resulted in loss of power for some surrounding areas.            

The driver of the car was treated and released from the hospital for injuries he sustained during the crash.

Barr's body is being sent to the Alabama Crime Lab for an autopsy.

According to Facebook, the Salem resident had recently graduated with his Master's Degree from Troy University.  

The cause of the accident is still unknown.  There is no word on whether or not any charges will be filed.
