Smiths Station man dies in mobile home fire

Lee County investigators say it appears an accidental fire caused the death of a Smiths Station man.  Investigators say the victim lived alone in a mobile home that did not have any power.
Tragedy strikes a Smiths Station family after investigators say an early morning fire started at a home in Smiths Station on Lee Road 430, killing at least one person.
Lee County investigators believe the body will be identified as 50-year-old Ronnie Eller, who lived alone in the mobile home.
Lee County Deputy Charlotte Patterson says, "A bystander saw the fire and reported it and the fire department got her very quickly the mobile home was engulfed in flames and there was a dead person in there."
Investigators say Eller was last seen alive by a friend inside his home on Christmas night.
That friend told investigators Eller had lit a candle and was using a wood burning stove because his home did not have electricity or power.
It is possible the candle or wood burning stove sparked this fatal fire.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Alabama fire Marshal's office.
