VALLEY, AL (WTVM) – A Valley man is facing
serious charges after police say he held a knife to a teen's throat and
threatened to kill him. The victim's brother fought off the suspect and helped
his brother get to safety, but was stabbed in the process.
Early
Tuesday morning, police say 31-year-old Michael Dooley entered a home on
Peterson Street in Valley and became enraged with the older boy and his younger
brother, who were home alone.
Police
say the boys' mother and her boyfriend were at work, when Dooley, the boyfriend's
brother confronted the two boys.
"They
were trying to get him to leave, and he became enraged grabbed a kitchen knife
and held it to the throat of the 11-year-old boy and threatened to kill him," says
Major Mike Reynolds with the Valley Police Department.
"The
14-year-old tried to get him off his brother and that is when Dooly turned on
him and started beating him with his fists. The 11 year old was able to escape
and the 14-year-old turned to follow suit and Dooly stabbed him with a knife in
the upper body."
Investigators
say the boys ran for help at a neighbor's house.
When
police arrived, Dooley was talked out of the house by police then arrested. He faces kidnapping charges because he held
the boys against their will and assault charges for the stabbing.
Police
say the oldest boy is expected to recover from the stab wound at a nearby
hospital.
Major
Reynolds tells News Leader 9 case workers with the Department of Human
Resources have been called in to monitor the family and make sure the boys are
okay in their home environment.
