HARRIS COUNTY, GA (WTVM) -

Harris County authorities charged a Florida man with Reckless Driving after his girlfriend fell from the back of her car on New Year's Eve.

Samuel Kirkland, 31, and his girlfriend, Nicole Carver, 32, were practicing driving in the parking lot of Mulberry Creek Elementary School in Cataula around 6:00 Saturday night.  Kirkland does not have a license and Carver, who he met online, was trying to teach him.

Harris County Sheriff Mike Jolley tells News Leader 9, Carver was goofing around and got on the back of the car.  "She fell off and hit her head.  Carver was transported to the Medical Center and was on life support," said Jolley.  Officials confirm she died as a result of the injury.

The sheriff adds no alcohol was involved. "The District Attorney plans to take the case before a grand jury and charge Kirkland with vehicular homicide," said Sheriff Jolley.

Carver leaves behind a 10-year-old son.

According to Cox Funeral Home, Carver's funeral will be Friday at 4:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Pine Mountain Valley.
