Sumter Co. crews put out two separate mobile home fires

SUMTER COUNTY, GA (WTVM) - Authorities in Sumter County are investigating two separate structure fires that occurred on January 3rd.

Sumter County Fire Chief John Ekaitis says firefighters received calls of a mobile home fire at 1633 Highway 195 North around 2:24 p.m.

Fire officials say the single-wide mobile home was fully involved when they arrived. Ekaitis says 7 engines and about 22 Sumter County firefighters were assisted by crews from the City of Leslie.

The mobile home is a total loss, but the cause of the fire has not been determined.

The family of four was not home and no one was injured. The American Red Cross is currently assisting the family.

Then around 3:36 p.m., firefighters received another call to a mobile home fire at 211 Tallent Store Road.

Eight firefighters from Sumter County along with crews from Webster County were able to contain the fire to the living room. Ekaitis says one of the walls was destroyed exposing the home to the outside.

Fire officials say a wood burning stove is the cause of the fire.

The two people living in the house were home at the time of the fire but were not injured. They are now staying with relatives.
