The Alabama football team practiced for two hours in full pads at the Mercedes Benz Superdome on Thursday afternoon. The practice was the first for the Crimson Tide in New Orleans as it prepares for LSU in the 2012 BCS National Championship game.

The team started off the day with a press conference that featured the Alabama offense. Tide offensive coordinator Jim McElwain was joined by juniors Barrett Jones and Trent Richardson, senior Marquis Maze and sophomore AJ McCarron at the media hotel.

"After the game we had against LSU last time, everyone is focused on being more prepared," Richardson said. "So far, as far as practice and film study goes, a lot of guys know more than they knew last time. One of my goals this year was to get better and to have a chance to play in the National Championship."

The entire team will participate in the BCS National Championship Media Day tomorrow morning at the Marriott Convention center.

"Guys are concentrating on being well-prepared," Alabama linebacker Dont'a Hightower said upon arriving to New Orleans. "I feel like we are really well prepared so far. As far as practice and film study go, I feel like guys know a little bit more about the game plan than they did the first time. I feel like we got a real good game plan so we just got to go out and execute it."

The BCS National Championship game will be held on Monday, January 9, 2012, at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, La. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. CT on ESPN with Brent Musberger on play-by-play, Kirk Herbstreit as the color analyst and Tom Rinaldi and Erin Andrews reporting from the sideline.
