Snow expected to fall in north Georgia, Alabama

ATLANTA (AP) - Up to an inch of snow is expected to fall in parts of north Georgia as a cold front moves into the area.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for 11 counties in north Georgia. The advisory includes the cities of Blairsville, Chatsworth, Cleveland, Dalton and Dahlonega.

The advisory will be in effect from 7 p.m. Thursday to 7 a.m. Friday.

Forecasters say rain is expected to transition to snow after 7 p.m. They say the precipitation and freezing temperatures may result in some icy patches on roads.


BIRMINGHAM, AL (AP) - Light snow is expected to fall in parts of northern Alabama as a strong cold front moves into the area.

The National Weather Service says light rain is expected to mix with light snow across northern Alabama Thursday.

Forecasters say up to a half-inch of snow might accumulate on grassy and elevated surfaces in the higher elevations of northeast Alabama.

In parts of northern Alabama, several roads were closed Wednesday because of flooding. WAFF-TV reports that some stranded motorists had to be rescued from floodwaters. Crews were reopening some of the roads on Thursday.
