FORT BENNING, GA - The Fort Benning Tax Center will have
its ribbon cutting on Jan. 26 but will be open for business at 9 a.m. Jan.
18 at its new location on the 3rd floor of Bldg. 2839, 6450 Way Ave,
Office of the Staff Judge Advocate. The tax center will prepare and e-file
1040EZ, 1040A and 1040 returns for Soldiers, Family members and retirees at
no charge.
The Tax Center
will be open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Last walk-ins will be taken 30 minutes prior to closing.
the center will
be closed on weekends.
Services are
available on a first-come, first-served basis. Those eligible to use the tax center must bring a valid
military ID card, Social Security cards for themselves and their dependents, a
voided check, and all tax documents to include all receipts and statements,
W-2s, 1098s and 1099s.
If available, clients should also bring a copy of a prior
tax return.
Clients divorced
between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2011, should bring a copy of their divorce decree. Non-custodial parents should bring
a copy of their Form 8332 or a copy of their divorce decree.
Last year, the
tax center prepared 4,262 Federal and 3,834 State Income Tax returns, saving Soldiers, Family members and retirees
$572,492 in tax preparations fees. Federal and State refunds totaled more
than $8.7 million.
