PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) – A Phenix City murder suspect is now in the Russell County jail after turning himself in to police.
Phenix City police say Walter Patterson III walked into the station Wednesday afternoon and asked to speak to an officer because he wanted to turn himself in.
Patterson is accused of killing Terry Simmons and injuring Richard Prince during a shooting over the weekend outside Car-Mart.
Police say they are glad an end is near in this case.
Captain Frank Ivey with Phenix City Police Department says several local law enforcement agencies worked tirelessly to locate Patterson's whereabouts during the entire investigation. Ivey added, "It was a milestone in the investigation in that it allowed us to bring that part of the investigation to a close uneventfully. That's what we were attempting to do all along."
Patterson is being held in the Russell County Jail and charged with capital murder.
