Army veteran running against Bishop for Congress

Posted: Updated:

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – Army veteran John House announced his intent to run for the 2nd Congressional District against incumbent Sandford Bishop.

House made the announcement Thursday in front of the Georgia Department of Labor in Columbus; citing a lack of jobs and high taxes as his main reason for throwing his hat into the ring.

He was joined by dozens of supports and his wife and children.

House says he's confident he can beat bishop.

"I'm also reaching out to the people who may have supported congressman Bishop I believe some of them may support me as it's a hard fight but I tent to make it and I intend to win it," says House.

House is the second Republican candidate to seek the 2nd Congressional District seat.

Rick Allen who lost the GOP primary in 2010 to Mike Keown announced late last year his intent to run.

Incumbent Sanford Bishop also announced last year that he would seek an 11th term in congress.
