Boy, 8, honored for doing Heimlich on brother, 2

JONESBORO, Ga. (AP) - A Georgia 8-year-old will be recognized in Clayton County on Tuesday for using the Heimlich maneuver to prevent his 2-year-old brother from choking on a piece of candy.

Malik Gipson tells the Clayton New Daily that he got the idea from watching the TV show Pair of Kings on the Disney XD channel.

Malik and his 2-year-old brother Michael were at their grandmother's house in December while their parents cleaned her gutters.

Authorities say the toddler began choking on a piece of peppermint candy. Malik said he knew exactly what to do, and performed the Heimlich maneuver. After two tries, the candy popped out.

Clayton County Fire and Emergency Services Chief Jeff Hood on Tuesday will present Malik with a certificate honoring him for saving his brother's life.
