South Columbus Catholic school needs $250,000 to stay open

A Catholic school in south Columbus is asking the community's help to keep it open.

Tuesday, officials announced Our Lady of Lourdes is in dire need of funds. The school has until February 3rd to raise $250,000. If it does not have the funds by then, the school will be forced to close next year.

Our Lady of Lourdes has been in south Columbus for the past 51 years.

The principal, Diana Hankins, told News Leader Nine, "The last couple of years, our diocese and our parish have stepped forward and carried on the  debt and taken on the debt the school has. So we are in debt about $250,000."

Hankins said their money problems did not start this year. "Ultimately it was the sacrifice of our teachers and staff of this building to give up part of their salary to balance our budget for this year."

If you would like to help the school, please call, 706-689-5644.
