New clinic opens to help those without insurance

COLUMBUS, GA (WXTX) - If you are without insurance, a new clinic in Columbus is just the place for you.

Mercy Med opened this week.  They work on a sliding scale for payment.

For example, if you make $20,000 a year and have two kids, you would pay $25.

Or, if you make$40,000 a year with no kids, you pay $45.

Doctor Grant Scarborough runs the clinic and hopes to minister to those in need.

"There are a lot of folks around, just when you drive up and down these streets, you can tell people are in need. There is a lot of drug addiction in this community. There is prostitution. There is homelessness walking up and down 2nd Ave," explained Scarborough.

Mercy Med is located in the old North Highlands CB&T on 2nd Avenue and they have kept a lot of the bank charm in the building.   The old teller windows are used for the check-in counter and the bank vault, with original door, is the triage.

Scarborough hopes "Not just to heal them with a pill, but try to encourage them to live differently."

They are in need of volunteers, go to their website to fill out the form. www.mercymedcolumbus.com
