COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Without the heart, there is no life and Phenix City says those in their education system are the heart of their community.
The heart of the community awards held at Central High School in Phenix City drew big crowds and big acts from area students.
Through singing, dancing, and awesome jump roping the best teachers, volunteers, and transportation workers, just to name a few, were honored.
Serving as a PTA president and member of the advisory committee, Lativia Rivers says she's honored to be recognized but she does it all because she loves the city.
"Excited, but I am a volunteer for the community. I love Phenix City and Russell County. It's wonderful to see the community come out and support each other. I think it's great a lot of my teachers are here and I love them and they know whatever they need, all they have to do is call me. I'm here to support them."
Those in attendance say together they will continue to pave the "road to success" for Alabama students.
