Opelika police find more remains after discovery of child's skull

OPELIKA, AL (WTVM) -

Additional remains were found Wednesday after a weekend discovery of a human skull. Opelika police say Saturday they found what appeared to be a child's skull off Hurst Street in a trailer park.

This week, investigators have been canvassing the area for additional evidence.

After Saturday's find of a child's skull near the Brook Haven Trailer Park and other remains found on Monday, officers spent Wednesday morning doing a grid search in woods near the trailer park.

The child's skull, believed to be that of a child around 5 to 7 years old, and the bones are being sent to  to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences lab to see if there is a connection.

"The remains found today were probably within 20 to 50 yards of where the skull was found on Saturday.  Due to the thickness of the brush, it took time to uncover it," says Captain Bruce DeLong with the Opelika Police Department.

The case remains under investigation by the Opelika Police Department Investigative Services Division.
