COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Muscogee County prison officials are searching for an escapee. Authorities say an inmate got away while at a work detail Thursday.
The warden says Christopher Williams, 50, disappeared from the Pine Grove landfill located right by the Muscogee County Prison.
They say he had a cell phone and believe he called someone to come get him. They believe that person picked him from a road near the landfill.
K9's were brought out. They say the K9's tracked the scent from the landfill to a road where it believed Williams got in the car and left the grounds.
He was at the site for one year serving a 5-year sentence for receiving stolen property.
The warden says they've been following up on leads and interviewing witnesses, but they are still searching for Williams.
