AUBURN, AL (WTVM) -
News Leader 9 is following an officer-involved shooting in east Alabama. Chief Tommy Dawson says the shooting occurred on Rustic Ridge Court in Auburn Tuesday morning. He adds that the officer and the suspect are okay.
The following is a press release from the Auburn Police Department:
On Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at approximately 8:10 a.m. an Auburn Police Division patrolman attempted a traffic stop on a Chevrolet Cavalier at the intersection of East University Drive and North Dean Road.
The driver, identified as Antonio O. Scott, age 22, of Auburn, attempted to flee the scene and in the process his vehicle struck the officer.
The officer then fired several shots at the vehicle. The vehicle was pursued by the officer, and other patrol units, to the 1100 block of Rustic Ridge Road.
Scott's vehicle struck a curb at which time he exited the vehicle and fled on foot into a wooded area off of Stoker Street near East University Drive. Scott was taken into custody within moments. He was uninjured in the incident.
The officer, whose name is not being released at this time, received minor injury. Another uninvolved vehicle received minor damage as the officer was attempting the traffic stop. That motorist was uninjured.
The incident will be investigated by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation.
The officer will be placed on administrative leave which is standard procedure in such a case. Scott faces multiple charges which have not been announced at this time.
