Columbus (WTVM) - Hardaway alum, and Arkansas State safety Kelcie McCray, has been invited to the NFL Combine in Indianapolis February 22-28th. McCray joins two local Alabama players, Carver alum De'quan Menzie and Eufaula native Courtney Upshaw.
Menzie and Upshaw are two of 53 SEC players invited to the 2012 combine. Alabama leads the SEC with nine players invited, Georgia has eight and Auburn has three.
McCray recorded 67 tackles this season at Arkansas State. McCray had four interceptions this year, 10 in his career as a Red Wolf. He's projected as the 10th best safety in the class and an estimated 7th round draft pick.
Upshaw's name has been thrown around as a top 10 pick in the 2012 NFL draft. Upshaw was second in the SEC and tied for 14th nationally with 17 tackles for loss (-85 yards). He led Alabama with 8.5 sacks (-57) yards, which ranks tied for fourth in the SEC and tied for 18th nationally.
He was named first-team All-American by the FWAA, Sporting News, CBSsports.com, SI.com and ESPN.com , second-team All-American by Walter Camp and the Associated Press . Upshaw was a finalist for the Lombardi Award, which goes to the nation's best linebacker or interior lineman and the Butkus Award, which goes to the nation's best linebacker.
Menzie started all 12 regular season games for the Tide and finished with 37 tackles, three tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, one interception he returned for a touchdown against Florida and a team-best 11 pass breakups. Scouting services list him as a top 15 cornerback and a projected third or fourth round pick in this year's draft.
