Crime prevention grant for youth programs

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Four programs designed to prevent teens from making poor life decisions are getting some financial help. The Columbus city council approved more than $370,000 in grant money for the Crime Prevention Board to put towards these programs.

The funding will go towards juvenile drug court, Marshall Movers, Teen Advisors and a new summer program called "DARE to be GREAT".

Crime Prevention Director Seth Brown told News Leader Nine, "These are the kinds of things we have stressed all along or the kinds of things that we need to be funding. They all deal with middle school children, which is the golden time to reach these kids."

Local law enforcement will also be helping with the programs by teaching kids to avoid drugs and gangs, as well as trusting adults any time they need help.
