COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A developer has been chosen for the Booker T. Washington apartment redevelopment. The Housing Authority Board approved Columbia development to officially take on the project.
It is still not know if a new housing development will be built in the same place where the current apartments are but an off-site housing development will be constructed for the residents who will be relocated when the apartments are demolished in a couple of years.
Housing Authority Director Len Williams says they are excited about what Columbia will bring to the table.
"We are very pleased we have a good working relationship with them and they do high quality work," says Williams.
He says the housing authority will use newly received grant money to pay for the project and they will apply for a tax credit in June of this year.
The housing authority will plan to meet and talk with residents before relocation begins sometime next year.
