AUBURN, AL (WTVM) -
Auburn police were called out to a suspicious incident and found five small dogs dead of smoke inhalation from an apparent fire.

Police arrived on the 2700 block of Lee Road 12 in Auburn on Feb. 16 and found that someone forcibly entered the front door and there was what looked like severe smoke damage from an apparent fire.

After investigation, they discovered that an unknown person entered the residence, damaged several items, and started a fire in the bedroom. That was where they found the dogs.

Police developed Auburn resident Hal David Moore, 23, as a suspect. He was arrested later that day on eight felony warrants.

The warrants were for arson, burglary, criminal mischief, and five counts of cruelty to animals.

Moore was taken to the Lee County Detention Facility where his bond was set for $18,500.
