COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Just in time for spring training, straight from Broadway - one of America's favorite sports, is sliding home at the Springer Opera House. This show is for everyone. It has sports, love, and a little bit of mischief.

"Damn Yankees" was a  big Broadway hit in the 1950s. Now, the play will be showing in Columbus with 24 actors from all over are stepping up to the plate.

"Damn Yankees" tells the story of Joe Boyd, a middle-aged real estate agent who sells his soul to the Devil for a chance to help his beloved Washington Senators beat the New York Yankees.

The musical includes such popular Broadway tunes as "What Lola Wants" and "You Gotta Have Heart." "What Lola Wants" was a hit single with covers by Ella Fitzgerald and Eartha Kitt.

Actress Alicia Thompson says she never heard of the play but she's excited about being a part of it, "It is a really good show. I wasn't expecting it. It's kind of exciting, the plots really cute. There's a great love story."

Actors are rehearsing almost every day. The show is described as an intense schedule by some of them. But, they say if nothing keeps them going, it's the music.

"[It's] very classical music, actually all these songs are going to sound very familiar, because they use them in commercials all the time. So, everything is going to come to them like, I heard that before! That's where it's from," actor Omar Colon said.

The play is about a baseball team called the Washington Senators. They're not around anymore but when they were, they were terrible at the game. One day, a fan got so tired of them losing, he made the ultimate promise.

"He's a middle aged man named Joe Boyd and he says out loud, I'd give my soul if the Washington Senators could win the pendent, and suddenly the devil appears, " said Paul Pierce, artistic director.

You'll have to wait until Thursday, March 1st to find out what happens. Tickets range from $12 to $36. They also offer great discounts to public service workers and military.

"We don't want ticket prices to stand between you and coming to see this great show," said Pierce.

The show will run for three weeks so you'll have plenty of time to find out what happens when you make deals with the devil!
