EDITORIAL:  Nothing defines a community better than the educational system, a strong business climate, and quality health care.

In the past few days Columbus took a big step forward even better health care with the announcement that Mercer University is now partnering with both the Medical Center and St. Francis Hospital to create what they're calling a satellite a medical school here.

Third and fourth-year medical students will do their clinical rotations at our best hospitals with the expectation that their training will result in retaining some of their best doctors in the region.

With Columbus being the largest metropolitan area in the state without a medical school, the hope is that we'll one day be home to our own medical school.  If that happens, it will supplement the great jobs being done by Columbus State University and Columbus Technical College. And their hundreds of top-quality health care graduates coming out every year.
