COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

We're learning more details about the tumultuous relationship between 92-year-old Noel Morgan and his 90-year-old wife Annie Morgan. Police charged Noel with Annie's murder last week, but family members say the violence started long before that.

Family members say Noel and Annie Morgan got married in the 1960's and from the beginning Noel controlled the relationship.

"If she doesn't do as he says when he wants it done, he gets angry and he'll hit her with anything he wants," said Annie Morgan's cousin Harold Johnson.

News Leader 9 found a police report from September 2011 where Noel is accused of hitting Annie in the head with a cane. The 90-year-old was treated for her injury and Noel was given a summons to appear in court.

Then just a few months later police say the abuse got out of control when Noel stabbed his wife in the chest with a letter opener, killing her.

Johnson says, "I was devastated but I shouldn't have been because he's been abusive and beating on her for the longest. We've been trying to get her away from him."

Family members are still working on making funeral arrangements for Mrs. Annie Morgan, while her husband sits in the Muscogee County Jail awaiting trial. Johnson told News Leader 9, "She was the most humble and caring person. I never saw anyone care about someone like she did. She gave her life for him."
