Fort Benning invites public to weapons firing demo and open house on March 15th

Fort Benning will be hosting an open house. It's designed to give folks a first-hand look at what happens on post on a day-to-day basis.

The event will include a hands-on training exercise, along with a question and answer session.

"I think all of our residents here in Columbus certainly understand and appreciate what it is that we're tasked to do in terms of preparing our sons and daughters to defend our nation, and so we certainly respect the opinions and the concerns they've brought forward, and we're trying to address some of them as best we can," said Col. Jeffrey Fletcher, Fort Benning Garrison Commander.

Colonel Fletcher says one of the main points of contention is the nerve-shattering noise that comes with artillery and tank training. The open house is set for March 15th from 2:00pm until 5:00pm.

Fort Benning officials tell us they will host a live fire weapons demonstration from 3 to 4:00pm on Red Cloud Range. The public meeting on noise from weapons firing will be held in Fort Benning's headquarters' building, McGinnis-Wickham Hall in Marshall Auditorium, at 4:30pm.

Transportation to the demonstration and the meeting will be provided at no cost.  Busses will depart the National Infantry Museum parking lot at 2:20 p.m. and return after the public meeting at approximately 5:45 p.m.

To attend, please RSVP to Mr. Brad Castleberry at 706-545-2238.
