COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A teen accused of killing a Fort Benning soldier in a June traffic wreck was indicted Tuesday.
Jack Hughes, 17, was indicted on five counts of vehicular homicide and possession of prescription drugs after a car accident near the intersection of Macon Road and University Avenue.
Sergeant Jerome Owens, 39, died after the car he was driving was hit.
The Columbus Police report shows Hughes ran a red light traveling North on Macon Road. Owens was turning left onto Macon Road from Elm Drive when Hughes Ford F-150 struck his Nissan Altima.
Owens, who was from Valdosta, Georgia, was a highly decorated combat medic.
