Small dog dies in Columbus house fire


A small dog died Wednesday morning in a house fire on Lafayette Drive near Victory Drive in the Benning Hills area.

Columbus Fire and EMS responded to the fire around 10:30 a.m.

Fire Chief Ricky Shores says firefighters had to force their way into the home to put out the fire.  

A small dog died as a result of the fire. No one else was home at the time of the fire. The cost of  damage to the home and the contents inside rounds up to be $40,000.

The fire remains under investigation by the Columbus Fire Department of Fire and EMS.
