Phenix City council approves tearing down vacant building

Phenix City council members signed a contract to purchase and demolish an old building in the downtown area.

The building located at the corner of Dillingham Street and Broad Street in Phenix City has served as a bank, a pet store and even a pool room, but has been sitting vacant for years.

City officials purchased the building for $200,000 and have plans to tear down what they refer to as an eye sore.

After the purchase goes through in April, the city hopes to get with Russell County commissioners to decide what to do with the space.
