Cougars pick up another win

Columbus – Seventh ranked Columbus State beat West Georgia 11-2 in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday afternoon at Ragsdale Field.

The Cougars (12-3) struck for three in the second to take an early 3-0 lead. Back-to-back singles put runners on the corners for CSU. After a walk loaded the bases, Kenny Miller reached on a fielder's choice chasing in the game's first run. 

With two-outs, Navarro Hall singled into centerfield driving in the final two runs of the frame. 

Brett Teschner singled to lead off the third and advanced to second on a groundout before Cameron Griffin singled up the middle driving in the junior backstop. With Griffin advancing to second on the throw to plate, Miller drove in his second run of the game with a single over the shortstop's head. 

West Georgia (6-5) got on the board in the top of the fourth with back-to-back solo home runs by Garrett May and Evan Hester. 

Teschner had a run scoring double in the fourth while Eric Weiss launched a two-run homerun over the rightfield wall giving CSU an 8-2 lead. 

Miller concluded his great day with a run scoring double in the fifth. 

Columbus State rounded out the scoring in the eighth as Cameron Scott blasted a solo jack for his fourth homer of the season. After a Dollar double, Griffin singled home the final run of the game. 

Drew Dades (1-0) got his first start of the season and impressed. Dades tossed seven innings allowing two runs on eight hits. The senior struck out two batters while issuing no walks. Levi Futo and Chase Gilreath pitched the final two innings of the game. 

Cameron Griffin went a perfect 3-for-3 drawing two walks, knocking in two runs while also crossing the plate twice. Kenny Miller also had a fine day going 2-for-5 picking up a career high three RBIs in the game. Navarro Hall, Brett Teschner, Eric Weiss and Logan Dollar all had two hits for the Cougars. 

Brett Wright went 3-for-4 for West Georgia while Garrett May had two hits including a solo home run. 

Columbus State continues its homestand with a non-conference weekend series against Northern Kentucky. First pitch will be at 1:00 p.m. ET Saturday afternoon with the second game of the doubleheader following.
