Early voting in Muscogee County extremely low

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Elections and Voter Registration Director Nancy Bored told News Leader 9, in-person early voting in Muscogee County has been extremely low.

The legislature decreased the in-person voting time from six weeks to three weeks for this Presidential Preference Primary.  "So, we anticipated a little larger turn out for in person voting than what we have seen. We've had 20 voting units set up at the Library for the last three weeks and the turnout has been extremely low," said Boren.

Boren credits the low number of voters to having only one name on the democratic ballot and nine on the republican ballot.  She said this makes people on the democratic side think it is not worth it, and many people who vote republican think only Gingrich, Santorum, and Romney are on the ballot.

"In December the ballots were certified and the candidates that were certified remain on the ballot unless they officially withdraw.  And, none of the candidates have officially withdrawn," added Boren.
