Bank president dies of self-inflicted gunshot wound

ELLAVILLE, GA (WTVM) -

The head of the Central Bank of Georgia took his own life Tuesday only days after his bank failed.

The bank in Ellaville was taken over by the FDIC, two weeks ago.

The Georgia Department of Banking and Finance said the bank was insolvent or operating in an unsafe condition.

Ameris Bank has assumed all of Central Bank's deposits and assets.

Schley County Sheriff's deputies found Central Bank's president and CEO, John Gill, dead in his home Tuesday and say he died of a self inflicted gunshot.

The FDIC says it's still investigating why the bank failed and gill was not under any scrutiny at the time.
