A Chambers County woman was flown to Columbus Regional Medical Center after being bit by the county's K9 officer.
Chambers County Sheriff Sid Lockhart says the incident happened around 11 am Thursday at a Valley business.
The woman asked to pet the dog, and when she did Lockhart says K9 officer Ivan lunged at her and bit her face.
Her injuries are not life-threatening.
Lockhart says K9 officer Ivan will no longer serve the Chambers County Sheriff's office. He says Ivan will not be put down, but will most likely retire and live with his handler.
News Leader 9 just did a short feature on Ivan last week as he celebrated a year on the force.
